To elaborate more on this, the Trans-Pacific Parnership is a multi-national trade agreement being made behind our backs. Let me be clear, if it gets passed, there will be major changes. Most of them won’t be good. Remember how tumblr went on a blackout during the time they tried to get SOPA passed? Bad news is, SOPA looks like a cuddly little puppy compared to TPP.

Here’s a write-up regarding how it directly affects video games: http://www.modvive.com/2013/11/13/trans-pacific-partnership-means-gaming/

If that’s tl;dr, then let me sum it up. Do you enjoy watching videos made by any of the following?:

  • Chuggaaconroy
  • ProtonJon
  • NintendoCapriSun
  • JoshJepson
  • AttackingTucans
  • Lucahjin
  • TomFawkes
  • ProJared
  • JonTron
  • TotalBiscuit
  • MasaeAnela
  • SuperJeenius

If you do, TOO BAD. Most of these people, if not all of them, will become criminal offenders under the TPP. Zachary Freeman sums it up best:

Let’s playing and video reviewing is getting huge, but this could potentially kill it.  The Trans-Pacific Partnership tramples all over fair use doctrine and gives quite a bit of power to central authorities to work on behalf of major companies to rip apart anyone who uses their materials.  While defenders of the Trans-Pacific Partnership will likely say that this can’t happen, if we’ve learned anything in the past few weeks it’s that copyright claims can be abused to stifle free speech.  This is what happened to TotalBiscuit, one of the most popular online reviewers on YouTube when he gave a less than favorable review of Day One: Garry’s Incident.  The developer of Garry’s Incident, Wild Games Studio, exploited the shoot first and ask questions later of YouTube’s copyright flagging system to take the video offline, and they only removed the bogus claim after the torches and pitchforks were brought out by gamers online.  The Trans-Pacific Partnership could be used to institute such a system globally across the entire internet, and it would be enforced by law enforcement, meaning you’d have a lot more to face off against much more han simply having your YouTube channel taken offline if you made some big suits angry.

So yeah. Pretty big deal.

Spread the word, tell your friends, contact your state representatives know that we will not tolerate this bullshit.
